The Right Path
Proverbs 4:13-14
Far too often the modern world rejects instruction and “defined paths.” The Bible is full of reminders of how important these things are. Often it’s because they are directly tied to God Himself.
Here we are reminded that instruction, and the path of God, is life. To reject… or walk away from… or deny… God’s instruction is simply to skip merrily down the path of destruction. This Truth is… unpalatable to those outside of Christ… the exclusivity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is seen as violence or (even worse) intolerance…
Beloved in Christ, we must reject these understandings. Instead let us rest in the peace that God’s ways are in fact salvation. Without God’s ways we don’t get Christ’s completed mission. Without God’s Will (distilled into His instruction to His people) we have no Great Shepherd… but an impersonal deity not worth trust or worship.
As we prepare our hearts for the LORD’s day tomorrow, may we joyfully reflect on His instruction. And recognize how following that instruction - renewed for obedience through the righteous and applied blood of Christ - is Life itself (Christ is the Word made flesh, after all!) … as the hymn proclaims: turn your eyes upon Jesus… look full in His wonderful face… and the things of earth will grow strangely dim… in the light of His glory and grace! Amen!
